First quarter sales

2017 Maserati Gran Turismo
2017 Ram 1500 – the best selling vehicle in the FCA lineup.

Now that the first quarter of 2017 is complete, we can see how auto manufacturers are doing in Canada. For the period to March 31, things are looking up in general, with light truck sales (utility vehicles, minivans and pickups) up 7.9%. They now account for 68.7% of the entire market. Car sales continued to slip, down 2% so far this year, leaving them with 31.1% of the market.

Thanks to Desrosiers Automotive Reports, I am able to break down the numbers and have done so in three categories. 1) In descending order of overall sales, 2) winners and 3) losers. Make sure to look at the actual sales numbers when considering percent gains or loss – some of the companies sell so few vehicles, a few dozen can make a big difference, where that number would not have any influence on a larger company.

About Richard 91 Articles
At the age of five I was already obsessed with all things automotive being able to identify the make and model of car by just the sound of its engine going down the street in front of our house in the small town on the south shore of Nova Scotia. Although I have been covering and writing about the automotive scene for more than 40 years and the light still grows brightly.
